What to do in Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi is the perfect weekend getaway from Bangkok. Whether you are exploring Erawan National Park’s beautiful cascading waterfalls, climbing the steps at Wat Tham Sua, or visiting the well known Dealth Railway Bridge, there is something here for everyone.
Erawan Falls
Erawan Falls is one of the most popular attractions of Kanchanabrui. The cascading falls and crystal blue water is sure to take your breath away. There are 7 tiers of waterfalls to explore along with many caves in the National Park. The easiest way to get here from the city center is by bus. We took a bus from our hostel in Kanchanaburi that dropped us right off at Erawan Falls for 50 baht. Private transfers such as tuk tuk or songthaew are readily available but will be a lot more expensive! The entrance fee to the actual park is 300 baht for foreigners. (200 baht for children.)
Wat Tham Sua
Wat Tham Sua is a temple I knew I had to visit during my trip to Kanchanaburi. The name translates to “Tiger Cave Temple,” named after a tiger that used to live in the area.
Wat Ban Tham
Wat Ban Tham is the most well known and visited temple in Kanchanaburi. To get to the tremendous views at the peak, you will first climb the ascending staircase that will then lead you through the dragons mouth. When you reach the top, you will see a beautiful view of the Mae Klong River.
100 Year Old Rain Tree
This Giant Rain Tree will surely have you awestruck during your visit to Kanchanburi. It is over 100 years old and it’s canopy towers at over 65 feet tall. It’s a great location to relax and enjoy the outdoors, there are a few food trucks and local shops around for you to enjoy.
Meena Cafe
Meena cafe is a famous cafe in Kanchanaburi. Although it is a popular tourist destination, I believe it is worth a visit. The views are stunning, overlooking the rice fields and Wat Tham Sua in the distance. You could easily spend the whole day here relaxing and enjoying the views. There is a wide variety of coffee, smoothies, and tea on the drinks menu along with an accompanying restaurant offering Thai and Western dishes.
On’s Thai Issan Vegetarian Restaurant
On’s Thai Issan is a highly rated vegetarian restaurant in Kanchanaburi. They even offer a cooking course if you are interested in learning how to make a few delicious dishes. I enjoyed the vegetarian Pad Thai, and I have to say I think I enjoyed it more than regular than traditional Pad Thai!
